Data being collected to draft policy for children rights: IG

Peshawar— NWFP IGP Malik Naveed Khan Wednesday disclosed that police department was collecting data on violence and crime against children in light of the directives of National Commission and Provincial Commission on child welfare development which will help in drafting best policy regarding protection of child rights.
He said that for scientific and streamline processes of all this procedure, constitution of police child protection committee was also under consideration.
“Separate rooms would be built in each police station as per policy of Juvenile Justice System (JJS) so as to provide child-friendly atmosphere to the children at police station level.”
Addressing as a chief guest at the conclusion session of one-day training workshop on “Legal aid for children in conflict with law” held here at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, he said that children are our precious assets and we all have to play an active role for their best brought up and protection of their rights so as to make them good citizen of the country.
“Children are future builder of the nation and vowed that their rights would be protected at all cost.” The Provincial Police Officer said, “If any lapses took place in brought of the children in early stage and their rights were not properly safeguarded then the whole nation will have to bear its brunt in later stage.”
The IGP pointed out that equal responsibilities lies on every segment of the society to keep children away from crime, extend legal help to the children involved in crime due to any reason and make them better citizen of the nation.
“Police will not lag behind in playing its positive and constructive role in this connection and holding of two consecutive workshop on child rights in very short span of time was ample proof of this fact.”
He also directed the concerned quarters to hold more such workshops in future and invite representatives of NGOs to these workshops.
Earlier, Director Research and Development Dr. Fashi-ud-Din on policing, Judicial Officer Law Department Saeed Khan on legal and Project Manager SPARC Ijaz Ahmad on Medical point of view on child rights informed the participants.
Deputy Superintendent Central Jail Ajmal Khan and Director Social Welfare Muhammad Zahoor Khan also shared their information with the participants about child rights. The IGP gave away certificates to the participants on the conclusion of the workshop.
