Peshawar—A suicide explosion near a security check post bordering Peshawar and Khyber Agency Thursday afternoon left at least five people dead and over a dozen others seriously injured.
Those killed included a kid while medics at the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar feared the death toll would go higher as the condition of many injured was precarious.
Islamabad—The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the closure of torture cells run by the police in private houses. The court issued the directive while hearing the suo motu reference. Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary last week had taken suo motu notice of police torture in Chinniot, and ordered the home secretaries, inspectors general of police and advocates general of the four provinces to come up with comprehensive reports on such incidents.
