Consumer banking blog
Tehmina Azeem
Most of educated people are familiar with Internet. Internet is very
productive source of information, with a single click people can get
desired information on any topic. Last day, I have found a unique
and very interesting website www.consumerbankingpk.com. It is
Pakistan’s first and only informative blog on consumer banking. The
blog admin publishes product reviews and related articles on daily
basis. I am very impressed with the initiative taken by blog admin.
Awareness to use consumer products is really very important nowadays
when every one is short with excess money. These consumer products
have changed the buying behavior of people. There are very few
people who use credit card according to their affordability. I urge
consumers of commercial banks to logon to this website and learn
best ways to use consumer products particularly credit card,
personal loan and auto loan, etc. I was also a personal loan
consumer of one of the leading bank, settled my personal loan with
the help of my family members and feeling much relax now. Otherwise,
collection department officials were used to call me at my home
phone for payment, whenever delayed.—Rawalpindi |

Reinstatement of employees
Dr Ali Akbar M Dhakan
All the appointments made during Benazir Bhutto’s previous
governments were made null and void and the employed people were
discharged from their services particularly in OGDC, Sui Gas and
Banks, etc. Now that the PPP Government realising the difficulties
of the jobless people has issued Presidential Ordinance to take them
back in their departments / organisations through Review Boards. But
it is sorry to note that the procedure has been so much cumbersome
that the already highly victimized people are running from pillar to
post without any reason, staying and wandering in Islamabad Hotels,
foot paths and even mosques. For an example, the employees try to
meet the Minister concerned head of the Review Board, then the
sectional Head under the Minister then the Ministry of Petroleum,
then the section of the petroleum Ministry, then the sui gas, then
again to the section of the petroleum ministry, then the petroleum
ministry , then the section head of the Head of the Review Board and
then the Head of the Review Board. It has been seen that these are
only formalities to forward the applications of victim and nothing
else.
To go through these formalities, the victims have spent lakhs of
rupees and even in three months time, they have not been able to get
their reinstatement letter and running for getting their right of
jobs and here and there loosing their money, energy and time. The
President of Pakistan and the head of the Review Boards must come to
their rescue and get them recruited without any furthur anxiety and
trouble. —Karachi

French tech option
Kadar Khan
If government is seeing the merit for their decision in choosing
French technology why don’t they explain in National Assembly or an
open platform? Nation would like to know what they are committing
for? Government should be able to explain features and the benefits
to the nation.—Via emial |

Poor face injustice
Gangly Khan
Corruption reins supreme in police stations. When the complainant is
affluent, Station House Officer registers case on his verbal
statement even if it discloses the commission of non cognizable
offence. And when a poor person approaches Police Station for
registering a case Muharar asks him to produce his complaint in
application form.
On receipt of such application investigation officer calls both the
parties and make inquiry into the matter. This process prolong for
weeks. Finally strong party prevails and even substance of the
application discloses cognizable offence the case is not registered.
If the complainant protests over biased attitude of the IO, he is
arrested and challaned under section 151 Criminal Procedure Code.
After release on executing surety bond for keeping peace and showing
good conduct, the complainant if he is left with some money file
writ petition to Justice of Peace through counsel for registering
the case. Here again it depends on his luck. Finally the complainant
gives up and bears the injustice committed against him by police,
stoically. Common man feels being abandoned government
functionaries. Higher ups in police department are urged to take
notice and instruct Station House Officers to deal with complainants
on merits. —Mandi Bahauddin

Missing public support
Moez Mobeen
Political activity is the ultimate expression of public opinion.
Nothing can replace it as a barometer for gauging what the public
desires. Infact the strength and influence of political parties
within a society depends on their ability to perform successful
political activities. Demonstrations and protests are considered to
be prime political activities which forcefully assert the opinion of
the masses. Pakistani politicians, especially those belonging to the
ruling party have oft repeated the assertion that the ongoing
military operation against disgruntled militants in the North
Western region of Pakistan enjoys mass public support. Yet we have
seen no demonstrations and rallies in favor of the military
operation.
The PPP organized a huge rally on the return of Ms. Benazir Bhutto
from exile to make a case for her return to power. The PML-N rocked
the Punjab province with massive protests against the
disqualification of Sharif brothers. The lawyers resorted to massive
street protests to pressurize the military regime of Pervez Musharaf
to restore Iftikhar Chaudhry. However we have not even seen the
shadow of the political fervor which these parties generated in the
past, in the favor of the ongoing military operation. Where is the
massive support of the masses in favor of the ongoing military
operation? Why hasn’t it translated in to massive street
demonstrations? The fact remains, that the pro military operation
political parties have only relied on media to confuse the people
and run a propaganda campaign which would neutralize the opposition
to the military operation. The people did not own this war in the
past they don’t own this war today. After all the only street
protests related to the military operation, which we have witnessed,
are those opposing it.—Islamabad |
