PPP NWFP leaders criticise ANP Govt Demand governorship

Rahmatullah Khan

Peshawar—The PPP provincial leaders while condemning the attitude of their senior coalition partner ANP have demanded of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to replace the NWFP Governor and appoint a PPP leader to the post.

Addressing a news conference at press club on Monday, provincial deputy general secretary Zulfiqar Afghani said that the Awami National Party was leading coalition government of NWFP while the post of the governorship was the right of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Ayub Shah, Muhammad Iqbal, Saeed Ahmad Khan and other provincial leaders of the party were also present on the occasion. The provincial PPPP leadership came hard on ANP led government for its poor performance.

Criticizing the ANP led government Zulfiqar said that the PPP provincial ministers were completely powerless as they were being ignored by ANP government, which spread unrest among the PPP workers. He said that Zakat chairmen in all districts of the province were selected from ANP workers while PPP provincial leadership and provincial ministers were not taken into confidence in this regard and PPP workers were being ignored as well regarding new employments.

About the Mardan University, he said the University should be named as ‘Benazir Bhutto University’ because slain leader Mohtarma had herself suggested for a University in the district. “No other name will be acceptable without Benazir Bhutto University,” he explained.

Regarding flour crisis in the province, he said that there was no check over the flour dealers and one roti was sold on 6 rupees and a bag of 20 kg was sold on Rs 720 in the province while in Punjab per bread was sold on 2 rupees and the bag of 20 kg for Rs 320 in the holy month
