Islamabad—Thousands of lawyers and political
workers have begun their sit in front of
Parliament House after reaching here Friday
night on the final leg of their “long march” to
demand the reinstatement of judges sacked by
President Pervez Musharraf. Cheering crowds
turned out in towns along the route to welcome
the lawyers who began their long march from
Multan on Monday. Security officials said 6,000
paramilitary troops and police were deployed in
the capital ahead of the arrival of the lawyers,
who are staging a sit-in outside parliament to
press the demand for the restoration of the
deposed judges. “Parliament must now respect the
sentiments of people, the people have spoken and
they want the restoration of the judges,”
Supreme Court Bar Association chief Aitzaz Ahsan,
who is leading the march, told the cheering
crowd.
Islamabad—The interior advisor to
Prime Minister Rehman Malik has said that proper
legal procedure will be adopted for the
impeachment of President Musharraf and PPPP
fully supports the lawyers long march that was
participated by over 50,000 people. During his
visit to the control room established to address
the security arrangements of the long march
participants here in the headquarters of
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) he
also took a briefing from different law
enforcement agencies on security measures.
Lahore—Indian authorities have handed over the
dead bodies of two Pakistanis Abdul Haleem, 22
and 60 year old Rashida Bibi to Pakistan
authorities at Wagah borders here Friday. Abdul
Haleem, 22 had strayed into Indian border in
2001. The family members of deceased Abdul
Haleem started making efforts to receive dead
body of Abdul Haleem after it was disclosed in
an Indian Newspaper that he had died a month
back in Indian jail. The family members of the
victim voiced strong protest over the death of
Abdul Haleem and demanded of the government to
execute Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh publicly.
Islamabad—Pakistan Friday expressed deep concern
at the treatment of Pakistani prisoners in
Indian jails. “The issue has been under focus of
the Government at all levels and has been raised
at the highest levels with the Indian side,”
Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Sadiq said
here on Friday
Karachi—The
co-chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP),
Asif Zardari has directed the Sindh government
to prepare a feasibility report for construction
of some 14 small dams in various parts of the
province in order to preserve the rainwater. He
was presiding over a high-level meeting of the
Sindh government, which held at Bilawal House on
Friday to review the water shortage in the
province, and construction of small dams. The
meeting was also attended by Governor Sindh Dr
Ishrat-ul-Ibad , Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali
Shah, city nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, and
various provincial ministers.
Baghdad—Iraq’s prime minister
said Friday that talks with the U.S. on a
long-term security pact are at an impasse over
objections that Iraq’s sovereignty is at stake,
but he held out hope that negotiators could
still reach a compromise. In his strongest
comments yet on the debate, Nouri al-Maliki
echoed concern by Iraqi lawmakers that the
opening U.S. proposals would give Washington too
much political and military leverage on Iraqi
affairs. He left open room, however, that a deal
could be hammered out.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice offered her
personal regrets to Pakistan on Friday for the
deaths of soldiers that the United States called
partners in the battle against terrorism. The
two nations remained at odds over whether the
U.S. was to blame. Pakistan agreed to join a
U.S. investigation of Tuesday’s bombing along
the lawless Afghan border that Pakistan says
killed 11 of its soldiers camped there. Both
countries publicly pledged to continue their
anti-terrorism cooperation.
Islamabad—Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani
Friday said that Pakistan offers attractive
opportunities for establishment of new oil
marketing companies in view of its growing
market for petroleum products. The Prime
Minister said the import of fuel oil has already
been deregulated and import of high speed diesel
has also been outsourced to oil marketing
companies to attract investment in oil sector.
He said that the government will soon bring
about further reforms in the downstream oil
sector with a thrust on privatization,
liberalization and complete deregulation of oil
industry.

only be gainfully exploited through the
development of Martime Sector”. This was stated
by Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad
Afzal Tahir while addressing the Graduating
members of the 37th PN Staff course at PN War
College Lahore on Friday. The address marked the
culmination of 10 month Naval Staff course. CNS
said adequately developed ports and availability
of suitable number of National Flag Carriers are
an essential requirement for Pakistan.
