Lahore—Gulf between PPP and PML-N has further
widened with the oath taking of new Punjab
Governor Salman Taseer. PML-N had expressed
serious reservations over the nomination of
Salman Taseer as Governor of Punjab but PPP did
not pay any head to PML-N reservations. Salman
Taseer on Friday took oath as 27th Governor of
Punjab succeeding Lt Gen (Retd) Khalid Maqbool
at a ceremony held at Governor’s House.
Islamabad—Pakistan’s army lodged a formal
protest Friday to “allied forces” in neighboring
Afghanistan over a suspected US missile strike
this week that killed 14 people in a Pakistani
border village.

that the deposed judges would be restored
through legal and constitutional means before
presentation of budget.

Washington—President Bush’s Iraq war funding
request collapsed in the House Thursday as
anti-war Democrats and Republicans unhappy about
added domestic funding combined to kill — for
now — $163 billion to support U.S. troops
overseas.
Riyadh—The White House announced major new
cooperation agreements with Saudi Arabia on
Friday as US President George W. Bush made his
second visit to the oil superpower this year.
The agreements cover cooperation on civil
nuclear power and protecting the kingdom’s oil
infrastructure.
Islamabad—The government of Pakistan Peoples
Party has announced the promotion and transfers
of several high level officers at federal level
while the notification of retirement of three
officers has also been issued.
Khar—Pakistani authorities Friday found the body
of a paramilitary soldier beheaded by Taliban
insurgents in a tribal area where a suspected US
missile strike left 12 people dead, an official
said.
