Govt keen for betterment of environ conditions
Karachi—The Federal Minister for Environment
Hamidullah Jan Afridi has said that the government is making all out
efforts for the betterment of environmental conditions in the
country to ensure neat and clean environment.
This he stated white speaking at the Senate Standing Committee
meeting which attended by Environment and alternative Energy
Department, Government of Sindh, City District Government, Sindh
Wildlife and Forest Department representatives.
The Committee was informed that there are 6,000 industrial units
functioning in Karachi and their daily industrial wastage of 104
million gallon falling into the sea which is serious threat to the
city.
The Committee was also briefed about circular railway Karachi that
it will be started with a sum of 872 million dollars with the
assistance of Japan Government. The Sindh Wildlife and Forest
Department appraised their difficulties to conserve the forest from
land grabbers who have converted the land into agriculture land.
The Department requested Minister and Senate Standing Committee to
get implemented the Sindh Wildlife Protect Ordinance 1972 in letter
and spirit.
The Department also informed that the forest of Mangroves and Marine
habitat was being affected due to non-supply of fresh water from
Indus River. The requirement of fresh water for marine habitat was
stated to be 10 MAF river water for their safety. Federal Minister
directed the related department to submit detailed report regarding
their requirements for environmental needs.—APP
