Threatening tone of Nawaz Sharif

AS expected, there are indications that the mistrust created by the issue of reinstatement of deposed judges would widen the gulf between the PPP and the PML(N). At least, latest statements emanating from the leadership of the PML(N) leave no doubt that the chances of any genuine ‘reconciliation’ between them would remain a far off cry.
While the PPP Co-Chairman, Mr Asif Ali Zardari has categorically stated that he cannot afford to lose Mian Nawaz Sharif and that he would try his best to persuade the PML(N) leader to return to the folds of the coalition, comments of Mian Nawaz Sharif and Makhdoom Javed Hashmi about relationship with the PPP leave much to be desired. PML(N) claims that it would continue to support the coalition but in an interview, the Quaid of the PML(N) has said that his party would extend full cooperation and support to the lawyers’ movement. One fails to understand how Mian Sahib plans to strike a balance so as to avoid any confrontation between the Federal Government, particularly when he says that the Punjab Government would becomes part of the movement. The situation become more clear if seen in the backdrop of remarks by Hashmi who told newsmen in Islamabad that the party was mentally prepared to quit Punjab Government over judges’ issue. Under these circumstances, there is every likelihood of things moving in the wrong direction in the days to come and the leadership of the two parties should make sincere efforts to avoid this as the country can ill-afford another era of political confrontation.
