Islamabad—The final meeting of judges
restoration committee has failed to reach any
decision and has decided to present the agreed
draft resolution to PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali
Zardari and PML-N Quaid Mohammad Nawaz Sharif to
take the final decision. Briefing newsmen after
the last meeting of judges restoration committee
here on Wednesday night, Minister for Law and
Parliamentary Affairs Farooq H Naek said, Asif
Zardari and Nawaz Sharif would brief media on
the constitutional package and resolution. He
said all, except Fakhruddin G Ibrahim,
participated in the meeting. Farooq H. Naek said
Aitzaz Ahsan remained in the meeting throughout
and he did not leave the committee at any point.
Islamabad—Secretary, Election Commission of
Pakistan, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad has announced
that the Election Commission of Pakistan has
issued revised schedule for by-elections, 2008.
According to a notification issued here on
Wednesday by the Chief Election Commissioner in
respect of vacant seats in the National Assembly
as well as all the four Provincial Assemblies,
poll for the by-election 2008 will be held on 26
June. Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad said that
nomination papers would be filed from 8 to 13
May.
Islamabad—Former Punjab Chief Minister, Mian
Shahbaz Sharif has said that some elements were
busy in hatching conspiracies against the
successful functioning of coalition government
but their efforts would fail. “We are putting
the mechanisms in place to resolve the
differences and our opponents would be
disappointed”, the former Punjab CM told the
media here on Wednesday. To a question he said,
if there are some black sheep within the ranks
of coalition partners, they would be exposed
sooner or later

Tsunami-hit open market, persistently sinking
the rupee value, by pumping $6 million in the
market through the exchange companies for
halting any further downslide and at least

Islamabad—Pakistan Peoples Party Co-Chairman
Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday expressed Party’s
commitment with regard to restoration of deposed
judges, saying “it (restoration) is decided as
only modalities are being worked out by the
judges restoration committee.” PPP
Co-Chairman made these remarks in an exclusive
interview with a private television channel. He
said, PPP was optimistic about restoration of
the deposed judges by May 12 as it was already
decided that judges would be restored and only
modalities are being worked out.
Islamabad—A summary prepared by the ministry of
law seeking the United Nations probe into
assassination of former prime minister Mohtarma
Benazir Bhutto, is under study of the foreign
ministry and it would soon be referred to the
prime minister for seeking international
community’s support, Qureshi said here on
Wednesday.
Karachi—The State Bank of Pakistan and
commercial banks have provided a sum of Rs 273
billion under the Export Refinance Scheme (EFS)
to all eligible export-oriented sectors during
the first three quarters of FY08, out of which
handsome amount of Rs 176 billion or 65% was
availed by the textile sector at 7.5% - lower
than ongoing 6-month Karachi Inter-Bank Offered
Rate (KIBOR) of around 10.32%.
Islamabad—Federal Infor-mation Minister Sherry
Rehman has assured of reinstatement of all
sacked employees as soon as possible. While
reacting to a question, during the question
hour, she informed that all those employees
sacked due to their temporary status, those
working on daily wages and employed on contract
would be granted permanent status, as promised
by PM in accordance with his 100-day action
plan.
