Multan—A crowd protesting power cuts rioted
Monday in Multan, ransacking the office of the
state electricity company, torching a bank and
leaving at least 13 people injured. Several
hundred men stormed the office of the Multan
Electric Power Compnay (MEPCO) to protest power
cuts greatly affecting textile units.
Beijing—Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf
said Monday he would welcome a Central Asian
grouping that includes China and Russia working
alongside NATO to bring peace and stability to
Afghanistan.
Islamabad—Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza
Gillani while reiterating government’s resolve
to fight terrorism and extremism in all its
forms and manifestations said that multi-pronged
strategy is being evolved to confront the issue
effectively. He said that the government would
pursue both long term as well as short term
initiatives which include political, socio-
economic as well as administrative measures to
address the issue.

the PML-N led coalition government in Punjab
under which all political cases filed in the
last eight years will be withdrawn, steps will
be taken on war footing in education sector,
there would no political victimsation,
institutions to be strengthened, IT parks will
be set up and appointments of honest and able
DCOs and DPOs and upright judges in lower
judiciary will be made.
