All-round Ashwin stars in hard-fought win

Perth—India’s feted openers did not cause significant damage and the inexperienced middle order succumbed to old failings, but their bowling allrounders Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin showed admirable poise to steer a wobbly chase home. Virat Kohli’s authoritative 77 set the agenda, but India began to falter when he had cramps around the mid-point of the innings. His exit, run out while attempting a hopeless single, left India’s lower order 53 tricky runs to get. Ashwin and Jadeja did the rest, braving the Lasith Malinga threat and the epidemic of nerves that had blighted the middle order.

We must solve the puzzle of how to play spin to stay No 1: Swann

London—England spinner Graeme Swann has said that England’s batsmen must learn how to play spin bowling in the subcontinent to continue their reign as the world’s number one team. He said that this England team wouldn’t be considered as an all time great team if they don’t learn to tackle spin bowling in Asian conditions. “We must solve the puzzle of how to play spin in Asia if England are to stay No 1 and be recognized as an all-time great team,” Swann said in his column for The Sun.
