Karachi unrest stretches wings killing 8, injuring 5

Karachi—At least two activists of a political party were killed and another five sustained injuries in a bomb attack that ripped through an office of political party in Lyari locality, while the wave of unrest continued spreading its wings over the metropolis even on Wednesday. Six other Karachiites died in gun attacks in different parts of the city. As usual unidentified assailants threw hand grenades at the office of a political party located in Nawalain area which lie under the jurisdiction of Klakot police station and fled away like always.

Women Development Dept sets up five women complaint cells

Karachi—Provincial Minister Women Development, Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto said that in addition to women centers, her Department has set up women complaint cells in five cities in Sindh for increased accessibility to relief by women in difficult circumstances. She also gave an overview of the current status of women centers and shelter homes. Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto said that UAN 111-623-937 is also installed in women complaint centers.

Prolific writer Zakir Ali Khan passes away

Karachi—Zakir Ali Khan, a great protagonist with the vision and mission of great reformer and educationist Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, passed away here Wednesday after a protracted illness. He was 86. Born in July 2026 in Rampur, Zakir Ali Khan did his matric from Rampur, B.Sc from Aligarh in 1945 and B.Sc Engineering from the same university in 1948.

Country’s first public sector Bleeding Care Units at DUHS

Karachi—Country’s first ever public sector Bleeding Care Unit has been opened at the National Institute of Liver and Gastrointestinal Disease (NILGID) of Dow University of Health Sciences’ (DUHS’) Ojha campus. Vice President, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP), Prof. Dr. Tariq Mahmood performed the inauguration in an impressive ceremony Tuesday evening.

The wisdom of a seventh day rest

THROUGHOUT the ages, human society has always seemed to allocate one day per week as a rest day. For Jews, it’s Saturday; for Moslems, Friday; and for Christians, Sunday. Even those who do not adhere to any specific religion seem to take it as a given that they work six days a week, and one of those days will be a “day off” from work. Is it a mere cultural belief, or is there truly wisdom behind this routine? What does this have to do with the one-day rest per week? Perhaps we can look at the different aspects of our lives:
